MANAGUA, Nov. 10(Xinhuanet)-- The President of the International Football Federation(FIFA), Joseph Blatter, asked Wednesday the Nicaraguan parliament, or Asamblea Nacional, to approve the budget for employing resources to support the sport.
Blatter is in the country since Tuesday to lay a foundation for the construction of a special 10 million US dollars soccer stadium in the capital.
After meeting with Wilfredo Navarro, President of the Economic Commission, and Bayardo Arce, a member of the commission, Blatter told a press conference, the legislators promised increasing the budget in 2005.
"Representatives Navarro and Arce will support, through the general budget of Nicaragua, the construction of the special soccer stadium, to be built within the framework of the second phase of the GOL-FIFA program," said Blatter.
The GOL-FIFA program is driven in FIFA's member countries to promote the sport.
Blatter affirmed that as the construction of the national stadium is of interests to the country and the people need the help of the Asamblea Nacional and the Nicaraguan government.
"We've found the will in this country to build the special soccer stadium," Blatter said.
In the same press conference, Navarro, a legislator for the Liberal Constitutionalist Party(PLC), said he accorded with Arce, a FSLN representative, to approve 560,000 dollars within the 2005 general budget, to construct the stadium.
"We're going to look for the money in the items that last year were not utilized in the general budget," Navarro added.
Blatter held a private meeting Wednesdsay with Nicaraguan President Enrique Bolanos, in search for support for the construction of sport infrastructure.
