Ukranian chess player Ivanchuk goes to Cuba for Capablanca contest

HAVANA, May 3(Xinhuanet)-- Ukranian grand master(GM) Vassily Ivanchuk is due to arrive here Tuesday to participate in the Capablanca In Memoriam International Chess Tournament, due May 5-19, at Havana's Triton-Neptuno complex.

Ivanchuk, 36, and ranked sixth 6 in the world standing with 2,739 ELO points, will be the main attraction of the elite group, in which will also participate Cuban GM Lazaro Bruzon(2,669) and hiscompatriot GM Leinier Dominguez(2,658), the 2004 winner of the Capablanca tournament.

The European has important victories in important contests suchas the prestigous Linares, in which he obtained two victories over former world champions like Russians Garry Kasparov and Anatoly Karpov.

Also in Cuba for the mentioned competition is Georgian GM Baadur Jobava(2,637).
