Beijing, Jun. 20(Sinosoc) -- Sunday's friendly rematch between 2002 World Cup Group C opponents China and Costa Rica at Helong Stadium in Changsha finished in a 2-2 draw.
Zhang Yaokun opened the scoring for China in Zhu Guanghu's home debut as national team boss, but the central Americans levelled then edged in front before Shanghai Shenhua's Sun Xiang restored parity.
Sichuan Guancheng defender Zhang fired China ahead on the half-hour mark with a shot from a Sun Xiang cross, then Solis pounced on a loose ball in the six-yard box and blasted home to equalise in the 57th minute.
Gomes put the Costa Ricans in control on 76 minutes with a low free kick that went through the Chinese wall and past Li Leilei, but Shanghai Shenhua winger Sun forced the draw ten minutes from time with a long-range drive from Zheng Zhi's cut-back.
"It's very disappointing that we didn't keep our lead until the end of the game," said Zhu Guanghu. "We don't have stamina problems, and our intercepting was good. Our problem is how to turn a good game into a victory and how to use the wings better."
China play Costa Rica again in Guangzhou on Wednesday.
