Harbin sets up steering committee for 2009 World Winter University Games

HARBIN, Northeast China, July 27(Xinhuanet)-- The steering committee for 2009 World Winter University Games set to work in Harbin, the host city of the game in northeast China's Heilongjiang province, organizer said here Wednesday.

It means the preparation for 2009 World Winter University Games started from now.

The committee will devote to various work, assuring the success of the games,including qualified gymnasiums, information providing systems and transportation.

Besides gymnasium constructions, the committee will also do itsbest in marketing, anti-doping, the preparation for the opening and closing ceremonies and the audit.

It is the first time that China sponsors a comprehensive world-level winter games. Dubbed as"ice city of China", Harbin islocated in the northernmost province of China and reknown for its snow scenes in winter.

The 2009 World Winter University Games feature 12 sports, including alpine skiing, ski jumping, speed skating, short-track speed skating, figure skating and ice hockey. Enditem
