LOS ANGELES, July 28(Xinhuanet)-- Defending champion Tommy Haas suffered an ealy exit at the Los Angeles Cup ATP hardcourt tournament, as the German was upset by Belgian Xavier Malisse in the second round here on Wednesday.
Haas, who had been sidelined for six weeks by torn right ankle ligments before opening play here on Tuesday, lost to the Malisse 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to end his personal winning streak over the 25-year-old.
With the help of 18 aces, Malisse overcome the loss of the first set and wrapped the match to reach the quarterfinals.
Earlier Wednesday, Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela came back to win over Dmitry Tursunov of Russia 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, No. 2 seed Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia raced past Jan Hernych 6-4, 6-2, and Brazilian Ricardo Mello breezily beat qualifier Amir Hadad 6-3, 6-1. Enditem
