WASHINGTON, August 13(Xinhuanet)-- Canadian Paul Tracy set a new track record in Saturday's final qualifying to claim the pole for Sunday's Champ Car race at Denver of the United States.
Tracy, who had secured a spot on the front row on Friday, completed a best lap on the 2.655-kilometer(1.657-mile) temporary street course in 59.432 seconds to capture the No.1 starting spot.
Defending champion and series leader Sebastien Bourdais of France was edged to second, followed by Mexico's Mario Dominguez and AJ Allmendinger.
Tracy also beat Bourdais' track record set last year by more than half a second and closed the series lead to 26 points.
Bourdais, who lead the standings with 216 points, will be seeking his third straight Champ Car victory after wins at Edmonton, Canada and San Jose, United States, on July 31. Enditem
