Russia's Tishchenko ousts Argenis to enter top eight

MIANYANG, Southwest China, Nov. 17(Xinhuanet)-- Athens Olympic champion Alexey Tishchenko of Russia fought his way into the quarter-final of the feather-weight category(57kg) by disposing off Zapata Argenis of the Dominican Republic 40-23 at the World Boxing Championships on Thursday.

Tying at 7-7 in the first round, the Russian managed only a slight 15-14 advantage to enter the third round.

Tishchenko broke through with five straight hits and led by 30-18 in the third round before he cruised to the victory.

The competition finished all the preliminary-round fights on the fifth day with the ambitious Chinese having only Zou Shiming(48kg) and Ma Yunhao(54kg) surviving.

Ortiz Guillermo is one of the 10 Cubans who enter the quarter-finals after he claimed a RSCO(referee stops contest outscored) over Mongolia's O. Batkhun in the bantam weight category, leading 28-8 in the third round. Enditem
