American Hedrick on world record run

WASHINGTON, Nov. 19(Xinhuanet)-- American Chad Hedrick beat the world record in the men's 1,500 meters at a speedskating World Cupat the Utah Olympic Oval on Friday.

He clocked a winning time of 1 minute, 42.78 seconds to break the former mark of 1:43.33 set by compatriot Shani Davis this year.

It was an impressive week for Hedrick, having set the world mark in the 5,000m on Sunday in a meet at Calgary, Canada.

Davis finished second in 1:43.41 with Erben Wennemars of the Netherlands third at 1:43.51.

Wang Beixing of China took the women's 500 title with a winning time of 37.52 seconds, setting the national record in the process. Her teammate Wang Manli finished second in 37.53.

The women's 3,000 title went to Cindy Klassen who ended up in 3:56.90 but failed to better the world record of 3:55.75 she set last Saturday at Calgary.

Fellow Canadians Clara Hughes came in second in 3:59.06 with Kristina Groves third in 3:59.77.

German Anni Friesinger took the women's 1,000 with a time of 1:13.95, followed by American Jennifer Rodriguez in 1:14.24. Enditem
