Mancini helps Roma to club record
2006-02-05 20:28:28 Xinhua English
BEIJING, Feb. 6-- Amantino Mancini scored twice as Roma matched their club record seven straight Serie A wins with a 3-0 win at Parma on Saturday.

The result also kept them in fifth place as they chase an outside hope of European football next year.

Roma had numerous chances to open the scoring in the first half especially through Francesco Totti and two close drives from Olivier Dacourt but they had to wait until the second half before they broke through.

Totti had two close-range efforts saved by Parma keeper Matteo Guardalben but Mancini was on hand to slot the ball home from six meters.

Parma was unlucky not to equalize on 67 minutes when a diving header from Fernando Couto came off the post.

It was a costly miss as Mancini quickly extended his side's lead.

The Brazilian sprung the offside trap on Totti's pass and placed a perfect lob over the helpless goalkeeper.

Totti was again involved in the third goal, as his pass over the top of the defense found Perrotta, whose lob landed in the far corner of the net.

On Tuesday, Roma knocked Serie A leader Juventus out of the Italian Cup despite being defeated 1-0 in the bad-tempered second leg of the quarterfinal.

Adrian Mutu's penalty shortly after halftime gave Juve victory on the night, but the tie finished 3-3 on aggregate and Roma went through on the away goals rule.

Meanwhile, legal action is being taken against 11 Roma fans for brandishing Nazi symbols during a Serie A game Jan. 29, Italian Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu said.

The 11 face prison sentences of between three months and one year.

Roma was also ordered to play their next Serie A home match behind closed doors at a neutral venue as punishment for the Nazi symbols displayed by their fans at the game against Livorno.

To provoke the largely left-wing leaning Livorno fans, Roma supporters in the Olympic stadium's south stand waved flags with swastikas and held aloft an anti-semitic banner.

In addition to the one-match ban on supporters, the Italian football league's disciplinary panel also fined Roma a total of 12,000 euros(US$14,485).

Earlier Saturday, Albanian international Erjon Bogdani scored to help Siena come from behind to earn a point against Ascoli in a 1-1 draw.Enditem
