Safin pulled off a 6-4 and 6-4 win to set up a meeting with Spanish qualifier Nicolas Almagro in his first semi-final appearance of the season.

Almagro, who upset former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero in the first round, made it to the last four earlier with a 6-4 and 6-1 win over sixth seed Filippo Volandri of Italy. Enditem
