Fourth-place finish for China at Toulon Cup

Beijing, May 26(Sinosoc) -- China's Olympics team lost 1-0 to Portugal in the Toulon Cup final for third place, fuelling rumours that Jia Xiuquan could soon be replaced by a foreign coach.

In what was a replay of their goalless draw in the group stage, Portugal prevailed thanks to a 66th-minute winner. But China had plenty of chances, with Shenhua's young striker Mao Jianqing hitting the post with a low shot on 13 minutes before Gao Lin's follow-up was cleared on the line.

Chen Tao scored from the spot on 54 minutes but had to retake his penalty awarded for a foul on Mao Jianqing. The Shenyang Ginde forward's second effort was kept out by the Portugal custodian.

China lost their cool after falling behind, with Zhu Ting picking up a silly yellow in added time and Zhou Haibin seeing red for a violent challenge.

Former Olympics team coach Eckhard Krautzun has criticised Jia Xiuquan's tactics, pointing out that China scored just one goal in their five Toulon Cup games compared with the eleven goals scored in just three WYC group-stage games last summer.

Krautzun, and globetrotting French coaches Philippe Troussier and Claude Le Roy have all expressed their interest in taking over as Olympics team boss, but the Chinese FA is likely to delay making any decision on Jia's future until after the World Cup.
