Coach Petkovic calls up son to replace injured Vucinic

BELGRADE, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Serbia-Montenegro coach Ilija Petkovic called up his son Dusan Petkovic to replace injured striker Mirko Vucinic in the World Cup squad on Tuesday.

The coach's decision was labeled a "scandal" as midfielder Dusan Petkovic did not take part in their World Cup qualification.

Dusan Petkovic, 26, has 12 caps for the national team, but none in official matches. He has had an unsuccessful soccer career while playing for Russian, German, Japanese and Spanish clubs before returning to OFK Belgrade in the Serbian league last season.

Vucinic of Italian club Lecce, damaged ligaments in his left knee during a 1-0 loss to Germany at the Under-21 European Championships in Portugal a week ago.

Dusan Petkovic won't be the only son of a coach to take part in the World Cup in Germany. Coach Zlatko Kranjcar and his midfielder son, Niko, are paired in the Croatian team.

Serbia-Montenegro is in Group C with Argentina, the Netherlands and Cote d'Ivoire. It opens its World Cup campaign against the Dutch on June 11. Enditem
