Gimenez named new head of Shanghai club

BEIJING, June 6 -- Uruguayan Osvaldo Gimenez has been named the new head coach of Chinese Super League team Shanghai United FC.

Gimenez, former head coach of the Uruguayan national team, has signed a one and a half-year contract with the Shanghai club.

The 47-year-old led Uruguay to win the Copa America in 1995 and helmed the team to qualify for the 2002 World Cup.

After 14 rounds of league play, Shanghai United FC is tenth among all the 15 league teams with only three wins.
