URUMQI, Northwest China, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The number one seed Zhang Yining of China prevailed Singapore's Li Jiawei 4-2 in the semi-final here on Sunday in 2006 women's table tennis World Cup.
Since Li originally gained her skills in China, she is quite familiar with her opponent Zhang, the reigning Olympic and World champion. After winning the first set, Zhang got into trouble, when Li grabbed the next two sets with quick and strong attack. However, the strength of Zhang's mentality helped her again in the following three sets. She finally overwhelmed Li 4-2 (11-9, 11-13,8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-5).
"It was a terrific game that we two have played. We know each other very well, so I actually have made the preparation for a full seven sets' match. However, after losing two sets, I adjusted my strategy quickly so that the following games became much easier." Zhang Yining told the press conference.
The table tennis queen is approaching her fifth world cup champion after reaching the final. Enditem
