WASHINGTON, October 1 (Xinhua) -- American D.J. Trahan defeated his compatriot Joe Durant to take his first PGA Tour title in a playoff Sunday for the Southern Farm Bureau Classic in Madison, Mississippi.

The little-known golfer led the tournament from the opening round to seal the victory at the third extra hole when Durant missed a five-footer for birdie.

The pair finished the 72 regulation holes at 13-under-par 275, Trahan firing a one-under-par 71 and Durant closing with an eight-birdie 66.

Twice U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen returned a 70 to finish third at 12 under with fellow American J.P. Hayes (68) a further stroke back in fourth. Enditem
