Estudiantes batter Gimnasia 7-0 in La Plata derby

BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Estudiantes on Sunday battered rival Gimnasia 7-0, the widest goal difference registered in the city of La Plata derby in the Argentine Opening Tournament, which runs from August to December.

Some 40,000 spectators watched the match on the tenth playing day in the soccer championship, at the City of La Plata Stadium, in Buenos Aires Province.

Estudiantes, managed by Diego Simeone, opened scoring in the third minute, with a Diego Galvan goal. Galvan went on to score in 50 minutes. Jose Luis Calderon had a hat trick, scoring on 23, 72 and 84 minutes; Mariano Pavone also found target in 35 minutes and Pablo Luguercio, in 76 minutes.

Estudiantes now has 22 points, standing in third in the 20-team table. Enditem
