RIO DE JANEIRO, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's national women's volleyball team beat Serbia 3-1 on Saturday, in a friendly match that re-inaugurated the Maracanazinho arena, which was remodeled to host the XV Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro in July. The Brazilian team won the first two sets easily 25-12 and 25-15. In the third set, their performance suffered a significant fall in quality, especially in the services and passes, which allowed Serbia to win 28-26. In the fourth set, the current holders of the FIVB Grand Prix title recovered and the score ended 25-17. It was the third game played by the two teams this week. The other two took place in Santa Catarina state, south of Brazil, and the Brazilians overcame the Serbians on both occasions. According to the event's organizers, 10,000 attended the match. The arena's seat capacity is 12,300. The renovation of the Maracanazinho arena took three years and cost 93 million reais (48.4 million U.S. dollars), and now it relies on air conditioning and a high-definition four-sided electronic screen hanging from the highest point of the ceiling, apart from other improvements. The arena, whose formal name is Ginasio Gilberto Cardoso, was built in 1954, close to the historical Maracana Stadium.
