Qatar grabs gold, silver medals of men's 5,000m at Asian championships

AMMAN, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Qatari athletes stormed to a one-two finish at men's 5,000 meters race at the 17th Asian Athletics Championships on Sunday at the Jordanian capital of Amman.

Felix Kikwal Kibore finished first with 14 minutes 7.12 seconds, followed by Ahmad Hassan Abdullah with 14 minutes 8.66 seconds, while the bronze went to Ishaq Isa Abedeen from Bahrain with 14 minutes 18.47 seconds.

Qatar has traditionally played a leading role in Asia at the event with the Asian record set by its athlete Saif Saeed Shaheen with 12 minutes 51.98 seconds in 2006.

Meanwhile, Indian athlete Sinimol Paulose claimed the title of women's 1,500 meters race at the Asian championships on Sunday.

In addition, India grabbed the gold and bronze medals of men's triple jump while South Korea ranked second at the event.
