WASHINGTON, August 5 (Xinhua) -- In an all-American ATP singles final over a year, top seed Andy Roddick clinched his third Legg Mason tennis classic title Sunday in Washington, D.C. by overwhelming wild card John Isner 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). The latest all-American singles final just over a year earlier came in Indianapolis where James Blake defeated Roddick for the title. With the victory, 25-year-old Roddick improved to 23 - 3 lifetime in Washington, capturing his first two titles at the ATP event in 2001 and 2005. Playing in his 36th ATP singles final and third final of the year, Roddick has collected 23 titles among those finals. Fourteen of his 23 titles have been won on hard. In Sunday's final, Roddick won the first set 6-4 by breaking Isner's one serving game. The second set saw the two fighting hard before reaching the decider. Roddick beat 22-year-old ATP promising star 7-4 with a backhand wider. "The key to playing these guys is holding your own serve. I felt like I was putting pressure on him on his serve," Roddick said of Isner, "If he wasn't winning the point on his serve, I felt like I had a pretty good shot at the point." John Isner, ranked 416th in world ranking, was the second-lowest-ranked player this year to reach an ATP final, after Peter Wessels was ranked No.488 going into Hertogenbosch, where he finished runner-up. He should crack the top 200 after his performance this week. "This whole week has been amazing, a dream come true. Playing Andy, the biggest draw in American tennis, was just an unbelievable honor," said Isner. In light of his performance in the American capital, Isner, with a height of 205 CM, was granted another wild card into next week's ATP Masters Series event in Cincinnati. It is Isner's second career ATP main draw, having fallen first round a month ago in Newport, and has stormed into the finals on the strength of five third-set tie-break victories, including over three seeded players Monfils and two Germans Benjamin Becker and Tommy Hass. In a copy of Las Vegas final, top seeds Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike of United States, beat fourth seeds Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram from Israel with a score of 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-7.
