BERLIN, August 5 (Xinhua) -- German soccer runners-up Schalke 04 crushed fifth division Eintracht Trier 9-0 on Sunday in the first round of German Cup, the biggest victory of the day for the opening of the new season. Gerald Asamoah scored a hat-trick for Schalke while six of his team mates also scored other goals. On Sunday, German Cup holders Nuremberg beat fifth division SC Viktoria Hamburg 6-0, Hamburg SV swept fourth division Holstein Kiel 5-0, Eintracht Frankfurt won at second division Union Berlin 4-1 and MSV Duisburg beat third division SV Babelsberg 03 4-0. Promoted Karlsruhe SC struggled against fourth division side TSG Neustrelitz but got two extra-time goals for a 2-0 victory. Bochum eliminated third division Dynamo Dresden 1-0. Wolfsburg beat Wuerzburg FV 4-0 and Arminia Bielefeld defeated SV Seligenporten 2-0.
