BUENOS AIRES, August 6 (Xinhua) -- San Lorenzo lost and Boca Juniors was held to a draw at home in the opening round of Argentina's Apertura championship. Newell's Old Boys beat Clausura champion San Lorenzo 1-0 while Boca drew 0-0 with Rosario Central on Sunday, completing the first weekend of matches. River Plate's first-round match against Gimnasia of Jujuy was postponed until August 23 after River returned recently from an exhibition tour in Asia. Leonel Vangioni scored the winner for Newell's in the 89th minute, driving a ball that deflected off a defender. In the four minutes of injury time, San Lorenzo's Cristian Tula nearly equalized with a header that was deflected wide by defender JustinVillar. Boca, winner of the Copa Libertad, survived three golden scoring opportunities by Rosario, including a first-half header by Emilio Zelaya that just went wide and another shot by Mauricio Caranta near the net. Elsewhere Sunday, Racing beat Olimpo of Bahia Blanca 2-0 off a header by Facundo Sava in the 40th and another goal by Cristian Pellerano in the 83rd. On Friday, Estudiantes beat Banfield 3-0 with three goals in the final 16 minutes, one eacuh by Ezequiel Maggiolo and SebastianVeron and an own-goal by Javier Sanguinetti.
