ROME, August 8 (Xinhua) -- Italy selected Fijian-born Manoa Vosawai, the only rookie, into the 30-man World Cup squad on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Vosawai was cleared by the International Rugby Board to play on residency grounds. "It's a great opportunity and an honor for me to be able to play in an Italy jersey at the World Cup," the 112-kilogram (247-pound) Vosawai said. Italy coach Pierre Berbizier also picked fullback David Bortolussi and wingers Marko Stanojevic and Pablo Canavosio who missed the Six Nations because of injuries. Scrumhalf Alessandro Troncon will be at his fourth World Cup and likely add to his Italian record 95 appearances before possibly retiring. The 33-yearold Troncon was recalled to the Six Nations squad in January after almost two years out. The team finished fourth, after beating Scotland and Wales, for its best performance in the tournament. Three other players, captain Marco Bortolami, Mauro Bergamasco and Andrea Lo Cicero, have played more than 50 times for Italy. Italy has two warm-up matches -- hosting Japan on Aug. 18 and at Ireland on Aug. 24 -- before the Sept. 7-Oct. 20 World Cup in France. The Azzurri, who are bidding to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time, are in Group C with New Zealand, Scotland, Romania and Portugal. The top two in each group advance.
