Veteran Ediev expects his Olympic debut in Beijing

CHIANG MAI, Thailand, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Hercules Aslambek Ediev of Russia is looking forward to his Olympic debut in Beijing as he still has the passion to continue his weightlifting career at the age of 37.

"I started weightlifting at 14, which was a long time ago, because I am 37 years old now," Ediev told press.

As the oldest lifter in the worlds, Ediev won the silver medal in the men's 85kg category in the world weightlifitng championships here on Saturday, hoisting a total of 372kg.

"I will not give up weightlifting until I am 40. I still have the motivation to continue my career," he added.

"I've never participated in the Olympic Games and it is my dream. I hope Russia team will give me an opportunity to compete in Beijing in 2008."

"I will perform better in next competition. I will try to make them believe that I am strong enough to compete in the Olympics," he said.
