YANGZHOU, China, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Hao beat his compatriot Ma Long to capture the men's singles title at the Asiantable tennis championships here on Sunday.

World No. 2 Wang, the Olympic men's singles silver medalist in Athens, won the match 11-9, 13-11, 11-9 and 11-7, increasing China's gold medal haul at the championships to six.

The encounter between the two Chinese proved a lopsided affair but the 19-year-old Ma's spirited attacks forced Wang to use his nimble footwork to stay in control.

"To win the men's singles is my goal and I made it despite the shoulder injury," said Wang. "It was not an easy win."

In the quarter-finals, Ma beat South Korea's Ryu Seung Min, thegold medalist at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the men's singles competition.

Ma had also teamed up with Hao Shuai to brush aside teammates Wang and Chen Qi, winning the men's doubles title at the championships.
