WUHAN, China, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Norway coach Bjame Berntsen said here Sunday that China need more quick-pace young talents to further develop their women's soccer. Norway, the 1995 World Cup titlists and Sydney Olympic champions, captured the only chance in the first half to beat the hosts 1-0 and set up a semi-final clash with defending champions Germany. After boasting a 7-1 advantage in shot statistics in the first 30 minutes, China conceded a goal in 32nd when defender Wang Kun lost concentration in the box, let the chasing Norwegian striker Isabell Herlovsen secured the ball from her control. Herlovsen shot the gift home without any hesitation. "China is a great team. Both sides played well today," said Berntsen. "The Chinese played all out and in extremely high spirit today. But we took a chance to win the match. This is something often taking place in crucial duel," he added. "China sent five players in the midfield today. But we had already expected such an arrangement," the coach said. "I know China coach Marika Domanski-Lyfors very well. She is a very good coach. But I think she needs to exploit more skilful and quick-pace talents." Before today's duel, Berntsen did not ask his players to do any practise on penalty shoot-out. He said, "I am confident we can winin regular time." Previewing the Norway-Germany game in the semi-final, Berntsen said, "It will be a very tough match. If we can play 10 percent better than today, we can beat the Germans."
