BERLIN, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Cottbus confirmed Sunday that their head coach Petrik Sander had left his post following the 2-1 loss against Vfl Wolfsburg that left Cottbus bottom of the table without a win. Earning just two points from six games for the club, the 46-year-old had to leave when the club's board met to discuss his position immediately after the home defeat to Wolfsburg. Petrik Sander is the first managerial casualty of the new Bundesliga season. "The decision was made purely on sporting grounds," said club president Ulrich Lepsch, who has had issues with Sander for months but was particularly scathing of the performance against Wolfsburg. "It was devoid of tactics," said Lepsch, adding that the club would be looking to find a replacement "as soon as possible." Assistant coach Thomas Hossmang will take control of training for the time being and has the tough task of preparing his players for Wednesday's trip to Bayern Munich. Sander took over at Cottbus three years ago, replacing Dieter Krein. He saved the club from relegation to the third division and managed promotion to the Bundesliga in 2006. Last season, Cottbus ensured their top flight status with three games remaining.
