LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Los Angeles police have launched an investigation into the death of a professional boxer who died after a bout, an investigator said on Monday.

Jackson K. Bussell, 28, of Reno, Nevada, fought boxer Javier Garcia on Thursday. The fight resulted in a draw, but immediately afterward, Bussell collapsed in the ring. He was taken to a hospital, where he died the next day.

The death came during the second in a series of professional boxing bouts held at a cantina in Calabasas near Los Angeles, said Detective Joe Price of a police homicide unit.

Investigators were awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine the cause of death, said Price.

The cantina is known as a bikers' hangout and was holding the fights in the rear of the parking lot, Price said.

Price said the toxicology studies to determine the exact cause of death should take several weeks.

"My guess is he suffered traumatic brain injury -- too many blows to the head," Price said.
