NAIROBI, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- World 800 meter champion Janeth Jepkosgei is pondering to break the 24-year-old world record after she won Kenya its first women's world title in the distance.

Jepkosgei said on Wednesday she will attempt to shatter Czech Jarmilla Kratochivilova's world record of 1:53.28 that has remained intact since 1983.

"Many people have told me it is possible (to break the record)," she told in Nairobi.

On August 28, Jepkosgei won the world championships in Osaka, beating Mozambique's former world champion Maria Mutola, in 1min 56.04sec, her personal best and the world's fastest time of the year.

The 24-year-old Jepkosgei sprinted into sight at the 2002 world junior championship.
