MANILA, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Two chess players of China topped the Sixth Asian Individual Chess Championship that ended on Saturday night. Zhang Pengxiang and Wang Hao finished in a two-way tie for first place with eight points and split the combined 11,000 U.S. dollars for first and second places, Philippine GMA TV reported. The Sixth Asian Individual Chess Championship, the biggest and most prestigious chess competition in the region, was held at the Cebu International Convention Center, Philippines, on September 19-29. Seventy-five players attended the competition and vie for the 10 slots to the coming FIDE World Cup. The Asian championships players represent Chinese mainland, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Singapore, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Korea, Mongolia, Jordan, and the Philippines. Most of the top 10 seeded participants came from China. The tournament determined Asia's 10 representatives to the 128-player FIDE World Cup to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, from November 22 to December 15. Darwin Laylo of the Philippines became the first Filipino to advance to the World Chess Cup and will join Pengxiang and Wang Hao and seven other players as Asia's representatives to the World Chess Cup. The other seven players who earned a ticket to World Chess Cup are: Abhijit Kunte of India; Zhao Jun of China; Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia; Wen Yang of China; G.N. Gopal of India; Enamul Hossain of Bangladesh; and Zhao Jianchao of China.
