SHANGHAI, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Corporate Shanghai has rallied to support the Special Olympics.

Tent stalwart Losberger is one company that has heeded the Special call. Losberger has provided more than 10,000 square meters of tent equipment, plus a healthy donation of 800,000 yuan (106,500 U.S. dollars).

"Tents reflect and witness the growth and changes of a country," said Dirk Gruber, managing director of Losberger Shanghai Co., Ltd.

"In the past 10 years, we have dedicated ourselves to participating in China's social, economic and sports events, particularly those in Shanghai," Gruber said.

Founded in 1919, Losberger Intertent GmbH Germany is one of the biggest manufacturers of aluminum tents and structures worldwide.

When it expanded business in China a decade ago, the first thing Losberger did was to create the word "Peng Fang" as the Chinese equivalent for tent.

In Gruber's eyes, the fast development of Shanghai is reflected in countless events such as exhibitions, product launches, road shows, opening ceremonies, concerts, fashions shows, tourism festivals and sports events. These activities, in turn, provide opportunities for his company to grow with the flow.

In the past 10 years, the company's premium tents have featured at Auto Shanghai, APEC, Formula One, the HSBC Champions golf tournament and the Table Tennis World Cup. They have also been used for state visits and embassy occasions.

Starting out as a two-person operation, Losberger now has more than 200 employees in China. Gruber said that the participation in the Special Olympics brings the team a sense of achievement, the event's official Web site reported.

"To the Special Olympics athletes, I hope they enjoy a good competition - and have some fun," Gruber said.
