2007-10-02 00:28:22 Xinhua English

SHANGHAI, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's first Special Olympics stamp was issued on Tuesday, adding charm to the Oct. 2-11 event for the mentally challenged people around the world.

With a face value of 1.2 yuan (0.17 U.S. dollars), the commemorative stamp the State Post Office issued for the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, features the Games' official logo "The Eye," which is shaped like an eye with the figures of two athletes jumping in the pupil, resembling a blooming white magnolia, Shanghai's city flower.

The China National Philately Corporation will also release "The Eyes" commemorative stamp album for the Special Olympics Games, which will lift the curtain on Tuesday evening.

This is the first time that China has issued stamps and philatelic products for the Special Olympics.
