BRASILIA, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The most supported Brazilian soccer team, Flamengo, on Thursday paid homage to world known architect Oscar Niemeyer.
Flamengo president Marcio Braga had a meeting with Niemeyer who celebrated his 100th birthday on Dec. 15.
Neimeyer was also given a personalized T-shirt of the Flemango club with his name and the number 100 stamped on it.
Braga also gave the architect a team sweater and told him that that Flamengo was able to attract almost 1.4 million people to the Maracana Stadium this year.
The president and his guest also talked about the fact that the Flamengo fans are now a Cultural Heritage of Rio de Janeiro and the team's head asked Niemeyer a favor: to design a monument in homage of the team and its fans. The architect liked the idea and asked for 15 days to come up with something.
The monument will be placed in front of the team headquarters in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
