BRASILIA, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The 83rd edition of the International Sao Silvestre Marathon is expected to draw 20,000 participants, which will be a record in the history of the race, organizers said.
The organizers also said 3,000 members of the Military Police and the Metropolitan Civil Force will help guarantee security and order.
About 250 medical professionals will be on hand on the day of the run and 15 ambulances will be available for emergencies. The medical team will be supplied with motorcycles.
All together there will be 4,500 people working to make sure that the marathon will go on without serious incidents.
The race, which will take place on December 31, will demand 450,000 of bottles of water, 50,000 kilos of ice, 2,500 dividers from the beginning to the end of the route, 10 bathrooms for wheelchair users, 250 port-o-potties, 20,000 isotonic bottles, 20,000 cereal bars and another 20,000 snacks.
