RIO DE JANEIRO, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Football club Botafogo beat Duque de Caxias 4-1, while Vasco da Gama defeated Macae 4-0 in the third round of the second phase of Rio's state championship on Wednesday evening.
Botafogo opened the score in the 17th minute, when Andre Luis hit the net after getting a pass from Edson.
With three minutes to the end of the first half, midfielder Lucio Flavio scored Botafogo's second before midfielder Alessandro added the third one for the hosts in the 62nd minute.
Edson sealed the victory for Botafogo, making it 4-0 in the 80th minute and five minutes later, striker Madson scored a consolation goal for the visitors.
Club Vasco had no difficulty winning its third consecutive victory in the second phase.
In Sao Januario Stadium, the hosts opened the score in the 13thminute with a goal by midfielder Morais before striker Edmundo added the second one by a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
Striker Alan Kardec continued the scoring binge, hitting Macae's net in the 57th minute and Morais converted his second penalty kick for Vasco, sealing it 4-0.
Botafogo will face Fluminense on Sunday, and Vasco will play Volta Redonda on the same day.
