BELGRADE, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Former Yugoslav football legend Rajko Mitic passed away on Sunday at the age of 86, the official Tanjug news agency reported.
Mitic, who became the captain of the Red Star shortly after the team was founded in 1945, won five Championships and four National Cups.
Mitic took part in two Olympics in 1948 and 1952. Both times he won the silver medal.
Mitic was the team manager of Red Star from 1960 until 1966 when he became a member of the national team selection committee.
As a captain, he led the national team 34 times from April 1966until November 1970.
After his retirement in 1983, Mitic applied himself actively as a volunteer in Red Star, where he was a member of leadership for along time including two mandates as vice president of the club.
