LISBON, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese soccer manager Henrique Calisto has signed a two-year contract to train Vietnam's national soccer team for 8,000 euros a month, Portuguese press said on Monday.

Calisto, 54, replaces Austria's Alfred Ried, who was sacked in December after Vietnam lost to nearby Myanmar, following a series of poor results.

Calisto has lived in Vietnam since 2001, and was the national team's manager during 2002. He told Portuguese media that he would work hard, "but I can't promise any more than that. Vietnam can do better that it has been doing so far," he added.

Calisto's current team, the Vietnamese league's Dong Tam, won the 2005 and 2006 league titles.
