BERLIN, April 1 (Xinhua) -- German soccer powerhouse Schalke 04 was snubbed on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final after going down 1-0 to Spanish Barcelona at home.
Barcelona put themselves in pole position as 17-year-old Bojan Krkic scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 away win in Gelsenkirchen of Germany.
The home failure has thus forced Schalke to face an uphill task at the Nou Camp in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
The visitors started the game strongly and took the lead with what would prove the only goal of the contest through Krkic in the12th minute.
Schalke is the last German club that is still fighting in the Champions League. The club is listed in the third place among the table of the German top soccer league Bundesliga.
