QUITO, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Ecuadorian soccer club Barcelona de Guayaquil was fined 2,000 U.S. dollars since their fans expressed racism against Afroamerican soccer players from Deportivo Quito club, the Ecuadorian Soccer Federation (FEF) reported on Wednesday.
The FEF's disciplinary commission sanctioned Barcelona de Guayaquil club for their fans racist actions in the 9th round Ecuadorian national championship game played on Sunday.
Barcelona de Guayaquil won the game 2-1 against Deportivo Quito Club.
The game was played at Monumental Banco Pichincha stadium, where many fans carried out "racists actions, with shouts and other expressions, against the Afro-American players from Deportivo Quito," stated FEF's disciplinary commission.
The sanction is legally based on articles 42 and 43 of the Executive Committee and on article 94 of the FEF's disciplinary commission.
