BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The chairman of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Carlos Paz-Soldan, said he objects to politicizing the Olympics and any boycott of the Beijing Olympics.

Paz-Soldan is attending the 16th conference of national and regional Olympic committees in Beijing.

He told Xinhua reporter in an exclusive interview on Monday that the Olympics should not be linked with China's internal affairs. He stressed that the Peruvian government is against any form of boycott of the Beijing Olympics.

"The preparation for the Olympics has brought major changes to Beijing. The city has widened its roads, built new underground lines and renovated cultural relics," said Paz-Soldan.

He said Beijing has taken important measures to improve its air quality, and has moved and shut down polluting factories.

Paz-Soldan believes that all forms of boycotts of the Beijing Olympics are doomed to failure. "we object to the boycotting of Beijing Olympics," he said.

He said that Beijing should make greater efforts to improve Beijing residents' English and to ensure that foreign athletes and delegates will be able to communicate with Beijing residents.
