BRUSSELS, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Dutch premier league leaders PSVEindhoven were held at home to a 1-1 draw by Twente on Sunday, failing to clinch the league title with only one match to go before the 2007/2008 season ends.
PSV led second-placed Ajax by five points with only two more matches to play.
A win over Twente will automatically give the defending champions another crown. If Ajax failed to defeat Groningen on Sunday, PSV will also be handed the trophy.
After the Ajax-Groningen match was cancelled due to crowd trouble, PSV players knew they had to defeat Twente to take the title.
However, the PSV players, who were eliminated from the UEFA Cupafter being defeated at home by Italy's Fiorentina, were not at their best form.
At the 35th minute, Swiss striker Blaise Nkufo opened the scoring for Twente. The hosts managed to level the score only at the 68th minute through a goal by Peruvian striker Jefferson Farfan.
The Ajax-Groningen clash was cancelled as a result of small fires at Euroborg stadium in Groningen.
Just when the players entered the pitch for their match preparation, rolls of toilet paper that had been thrown down by some fans caught fire.
The fire quickly spread to several parts of the stands, forcing the crowd to find their way outside or onto the pitch. A few were taken to hospital, though apparently there were no serious injuries.
It remains unknown when the match will be refixed.
In other matches on Sunday, NAC Breda defeated Heracles 1-0 to guarantee a third place finish of the season. However, Feyenoord were defeated by hosts Willem II 1-3, and Heerenveen were also beaten by lowly rated Spart of Rotterdam 2-4.
Along with Groningen, Feyenoord and Heerenveen will now fight for the fourth place at the final round on April 20.
