Bayi sweeps Tianjin in China club volleyball tournament

BEIJING, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Bayi swept Tianjin 3-0 in the China club volleyball tournament opening here on Wednesday.

Fan Linlin scored 16 points to lead Bayi women's team to the 25-19, 25-22 and 25-19 victory over Tianjin, who were playing without most of its regular starters due to injuries.

"Most of our veterans are suffering from injuries, so we rested them," said Tianjin head coach Wang Baoquan. "I think the young players can learn a lot from the game."

Tianjin was led by Liang Xiao, who finished with 10 points.

In Wednesday's other women's game, Jiangsu rallied past Liaoning 23-25, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-22.

In the men's actions, Bayi beat Shanghai 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 21-25 and 15-7 while Henan lost to Liaoning 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25 and 15-10.

The five-day Good Luck Beijing 2008 China club volleyball tournament is a test event for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with four men's teams and as many women's teams competing in the Capital Stadium and the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) Gymnasium.
