MADRID, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Struggling Primera Liga side Valencia got comforted with a Spanish King's Cup final victory over Getafe at the Calderon on Wednesday.
With the 3-1 win, Valencia, who have been dragged into the relegation battle after three successive league defeats, lifted the Cup for the seventh time.
Ronald Koeman's side went 2-0 up within 12 minutes thanks to goals from midfielder Juan Mata and centre back Alexis, before Getafe pulled a goal back on the stoppage of halftime.
Former Real Madrid midfielder Mata opened scoring in the fourth minute with a well taken header, before former Getafe player Alexis charged in at the far post to fire a bullet header on Arizmendi's corner in the 11th minute.
Getafe recovered for life as midfielder Esteban Granero scored from the spot after two minutes into the stoppage of the first half, but Valencia struck again with seven minutes from time when substitute Fernando Morientes heading in.
The night ended on a low note for Getafe when midfielder Fabio Celestini was sent off just before the final whistle.
Last Thursday, Getafe lost to Bayern Munich on the away goals rule in the UEFA Cup.
