CAIRO, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Head of the Egyptian delegation to the 2008 Beijing Olympics Mohamed Shaheen on Saturday voiced his confidence that the upcoming Games will be held successfully.
"(I'm sure) the Beijing Olympics will be the best one in the modern history of the international sports event," Shaheen told Xinhua in an interview on Saturday.
Commenting on the recent incidents of the Beijing Olympics torch relay in some Western countries, Shaheen said this kind of interruptive activities with political motives can not achieve any goal.
As for the Egyptian delegation, 84 Egyptian athletes have been qualified to participate in the Beijing Olympics up to now and they are busy preparing for the Games, Shaheen said.
More Egyptian players are expected to be qualified in the next few months before the opening of the Beijing Olympics this August, he added.
Egypt got five medals, including a gold, in the Athens Olympics in 2004.
The Egyptian sports official said the Egyptian team will try their best to grab more medals in the Games in China.
