RIO DE JANEIRO, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Werder Bremen's midfielder Carlos Alberto will join Botafogo's roster for Brazil's nationwide tournaments, the Brazilian club announced on Tuesday.

Alberto will be officially presented to the press on Wednesday at the club's headquarters in Rio, where he is expected to participate in a practice with the rest of the team, which will face Atletico Mineiro in the first game of Brazil Cup's quarterfinal round on Thursday.

The player is regarded as an important asset to Botafogo this year, especially for the 2008 Brazilian League, which starts on Saturday and ends in December. However, his debut in the team has not been defined yet.

In the announcement on Tuesday, one of the club's coordinators and former president Carlos Augusto Montenegro highlighted Alberto's achievements, such as the winning of the 2007 Brazil Cup title with Fluminense, the 2005 Brazilian League title with Corinthians and the 2007 Intercontinental Cup title with Portugal's Porto.

The 23-year-old midfielder on Tuesday set the final details of the agreement with Botafogo, under which he will play for the team up to May 2009. In July 2007, he joined Germany's Werder Bremen, which loaned him out to Brazilian club Sao Paulo in Jan. 2008.

During the state championship, Alberto had an argument with Sao Paulo's midfielder Fabio Santos, and the club decided to dismiss him. Werder Bremen then passed him on to Botafogo.
