Internacional beat Vasco with reserves

BRASILIA, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Internacional beat Vasco 1-0 at home on Sunday on the opening day of the Brasileirao championship while the hosts were plagued with injuries and suspensions.

Forced to field reserves, Internacional pulled together and produced a victory in their first game of the 2008 Brasileirao championship with the only goal came in as early as the 2nd minute.

Sidnei soared in the air to connect with the ball and headed it into the Vasco net after the team was awarded a corner kick.

Vasco was unable to produce any real challenge while Internacional focused on holding on to their one goal lead.

Both teams have important games this week for the Cup of Brazil. On Wednesday, Internacional will travel to Recife to play Sport, while holding the upper hand in the match after winning 1-0at home last week.

Vasco will travel to Alagoas to face Corinthians-AL. They have a relatively easy task due to last week's victory of 5-1.
