Atletico-PR beats Ipatinga in Brasileiro opener

BRASILIA, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Atletico-PR defeated hosts Ipatinga 1-0 Sunday on the opening day of the Brazilian first division soccer league.

Leo Medeiros headed in the only goal after Atletico-PR was awarded a dead ball foul in the 3rd minute.

Both team will return to the field next Sunday in the second round of the Brasileiro championship as Atletico-PR host defending champion Sao Paulo and Ipatinga travel to Santos.

The championship is the most prestigious tournament in Brazil and it will end in December this year.
