Indonesia enters Uber Cup badminton final

JAKARTA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia beat Germany 3-1 in front of a boisterous home crowd at the Bung Karno Sports Hall Thursday night and advanced to the final of the Uber Cup women's badminton tournament.

Xu Huaiwen, representing Germany, beat world No. 25 Maria Kristin 22-20, 21-15 while German's second singles Julianne Schenk was defeated by Adriyanti Firdasari 21-16, 22-22.

Indonesia's doubles pair Jo Novita/Gfreysia Polii demolished Birgit Overzier and Kathrin Piotrowski of Germany 21-16, 22-20.

The third singles of Indonesia Pia Zebadiah won over Karin Schnaase 21-7, 21-16, to send her country to the final.

Indonesia will meet China in the Uber Cup final scheduled on Saturday.

After the match, Adriyanti, ranked 35th in the world, said Indonesia's win today has proved "we are able to beat China in the final."

Indonesia's Uber Cup team manager Susi Susanti said "although the Indonesia Badminton Association has set a target for the team to reach the semifinals, our players have a higher goal. They really want to win the Cup and we will strive as best as we can."
