HARARE, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe international Takesure Chinyama is basking in glory after helping his side Legia Warsaw to lift the Polish FA Cup, a feat they last achieved in 1997, according to local media The Herald on Friday.
By winning the prestigious domestic knock-out Cup in Poland, Chinyama's team should have been playing in the UEFA Cup next season and the former Hwange and Monomotapa forward would be rubbing shoulders with some of the best players in Europe.
But sadly for Chinyama, there will be no European football if he stays at the club after Legia Warsaw were banned from UEFA competitions on July 1, 2007 for five years after their fans rioted during the game against Lithuan club FK Vetra.
In terms of importance, the Polish FA Cup, which has been held without interruptions since 1950, is the second most sought after football title after the First League Championship.
Before winning the title on Tuesday, Legia Warsaw had claimed the title 12 times.
It could have been a double for Legia Warsaw, which is also home to Dickson Choto, but they lost the championship to Wisla Krakow who finished on 77 points, a massive 14 ahead of the second-placed side.
During the league campaign, Chinyama emerged as the club's top goal scorer with 14 goals while Roger was second on just five.
It looks like Chinyama, who was at first rejected by Legia Warsaw, will be one of the team's most prized players next season.
The Zimbabwe international striker moved to the Polish top-flight side Legia Warsaw after agreeing a one-year loan deal in July 2007.
