"China Cup" Wushu Championship held in Bangladesh

DHAKA, April 12 (Xinhua) -- "China Cup" Wushu Championship was held in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka Sunday with 83 athletes competing 10 items.

Among the 10 items are 4 items for Taolu and 6 items for Sanshou involving both male and female athletes.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Xianyi attended the prize giving ceremony. Zhang said at the ceremony he hoped Wushu will develop further in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Wushu Association President F. R. Siddique told Xinhua another purpose for this championship is to select players for the upcoming South Asia Games.

The South Asia Games is supposed to be held in Dhaka on Feb. 28to March 10, 2010. The above 10 items will be included in the games.

Wushu was introduced to Bangladesh in 1990 and officially recognized by the government in September 2007 with the support of International Wushu Federation.
