MADRID, May 10 (Xinhua) -- China's Li Na on Sunday defeated Spain's Carla Suarez in the first round of Madrid Tennis Masters in a hard-fought and exciting match 5-7, 6-1 and 7-5.
Suarez, ranked 23rd in the world by the Women's Tennis Association, had a spectacular bounce during the third set, pulling back from 5-2 down to a 5-5. However Li Na, ranked 30th in the world, showed herself to be more secure and solid, ending Saurez's fierce resistance.
Li Na's final victory took two hours and 21 minutes.
